The Last Wish of Sasha Cade
by Cheyanne Young

The day Raquel has been dreading for months has finally arrived. Sasha, her best friend in the whole world -- the best friend in the whole world -- has died of cancer. Raquel can’t imagine life without her. She’s overwhelmed and brokenhearted.

And then a letter from Sasha arrives. Has she somehow found a way to communicate from the afterlife?

In fact, Sasha has planned an elaborate scavenger hunt for Raquel, and when she follows the instructions to return to Sasha’s grave, a mysterious stranger with striking eyes is waiting for her. There’s a secret attached to this boy that only Sasha—and now Raquel—knows.

This boy, Elijah, might be just what Raquel needs to move on from her terrible loss. But can Raquel remain true to herself while also honoring her friend’s final wish?

LM: What was your inspiration for writing The Last Wish of Sasha Cade?

Cheyanne: I wanted to write a story about two best friends who were loyal to each other. It sounded great at first, but then I realized one of the girls was going to die, and it truly became a story about loyal friendship that stays with you even after the grave.

LM: How did writing The Last Wish of Sasha Cade differ from writing previous books you've written?

Cheyanne: I had a very teensy feeling that this book might be “the one” when I started writing it. I had been through ten years of writing and getting rejected, but as soon as I got the idea for this book I thought it would be the one to get me an agent. And it was! Also, writing it was super easy and fun. It only took me 27 days. This book just fell into place for me, which has never happened before. (or since!)

LM: What scene from The Last Wish of Sasha Cade are you most proud of and why?

Cheyanne: The epilogue. Why? Because it surprised me and makes me happy every time I think about it.

LM: Describe your main character—Raquel—in just three words.

Cheyanne: Sincere, Brave, Loyal

LM: Give us a little behind the scenes story about the book!

Cheyanne: I set the book in the town of Peyton Colony, Texas, which is actually a ghost town that hasn’t been around since 1918 when the Great Depression made the town fade away. I love discovering old Texas ghost towns and bringing them back to life in my stories. The church in the book is based on the real church, which is the only thing left in Peyton Colony today.

LM: If this book had a theme song, what would it be?

Cheyanne: Never Enough from The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

LM: Tell us what you enjoy doing when you aren't writing!

Cheyanne: I love going on adventures with my dog, hitting the gym (and then complaining about the gym), and losing myself in Netflix binges.

LM: Thank you so much for answering my questions today! Is there anything you'd like to add; anything you'd like to say to your readers?

Cheyanne: Thank you for having me! And I’d like to thank everyone who reads my book. I hope you like this little piece of my heart, and that Sasha and Raquel leave you with a smile (and maybe a little tears.)
