This Tiny Perfect World
by Lauren Gibaldi

A contemporary “clean teen” coming-of-age story about a small-town girl who opens her eyes to life’s endless possibilities.

When Penny wins a scholarship to a prestigious theater camp, she thinks it’s the start of a perfect summer. But when she arrives at camp, Penny is thrust into a world of competition and self-doubt. And as she meets new friends, including Chase, a talented young actor with big-city dreams, she begins to realize that her own dreams may be bigger than she ever imagined.

DELETED SCENE FROM THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD

Hello! I’m here with a deleted scene from This Tiny Perfect World.

In the editing process, you learn to let go of scenes. You may really like them, you may struggle to let them go, but, ultimately, in the end, you know it’s for the best.

There’s a scene in TTPW where Penny and Chase go to Downtown Orlando and have a night of fun. They go to a club, they get food, they run around, they see some weird sights (Downtown Orlando has some cool sculptures). That scene is still in the book, however there was a big chunk I got rid of, that was a huge reference to my first book. Let me back up a bit.

In my first book, The Night We Said Yes, the main characters are Ella, Meg, Matt, and Jake. Meg & Jake are on-again, off-again. Matt and Jake are in a band called The Pepperpots. It’s kind of a running joke for me to include The Pepperpots in all my books, even in just a mention. In TTPW they’re playing downtown when Penny and Chase go. That also is still in the book.

Here’s what’s not in the book: at one point in the night, Penny and Chase go to a secret speakeasy where they have to say a password to enter. Penny loves the historical quaintness of it, and is fascinated that places like these actually exist. While there, Chase leaves her for a minute, and she bumps into Meg, who’s taking time away from The Pepperpots gig. They talk for a while and Penny is fascinated by Meg’s passion. Meg gives her some solid advice. And Penny is inspired hearing that the band is doing well--guys from her small town are doing big things.

The scene was fun, and a nice throwback (You didn’t need to know who Meg was to understand it), but it just wasn’t essential. It didn’t bring anything to the book. So, sadly, it’s gone. But, in my heart, I still believe they met at some point in the night.
