{Blog Tour} THE NOVEMBER GIRL by Lydia Kang—Author Interview + Giveaway

The November Girl
by Lydia Kang

I am Anda, and the lake is my mother. I am the November storms that terrify sailors and sink ships. With their deaths, I keep my little island on Lake Superior alive.

Hector has come here to hide from his family until he turns eighteen. Isle Royale is shut down for the winter, and there's no one here but me. And now him.

Hector is running from the violence in his life, but violence runs through my veins. I should send him away, to keep him safe. But I'm half human, too, and Hector makes me want to listen to my foolish, half-human heart. And if I do, I can't protect him from the storms coming for us.

with Lydia Kang

LM: What inspired you to write The November Girl?

Lydia: The song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, by Gordon Sumner. It’s this really moody, sad song about a shipwreck on Lake Superior. So haunting. But it mentions “witches”, these November storms that sink ships. I knew I had to write a book about this witch!

LM: Describe your main character—Anda—in just three words.

Lydia: Unearthly. Strange. Curious.

LM: What can readers expect from The November Girl in terms of romance?

Lydia: There’s kissing, and fading to black, and an irresistibly building romance!

LM: Give us a little behind the scenes story about this book!

Lydia: I actually went to Lake Superior and Isle Royale for research! The area is absolutely gorgeous and pristine and as creepy/powerful/gorgeous as I wrote about in the book!

LM: How do you "get in the mood" to write?

Lydia: Music playlist, for sure. I listened to Sia, Sarah McClachlan, Katie Hertog, among others

LM: Can you share a favorite line or moment from The November Girl?

Lydia: Their first kiss! But I don’t want to give it completely away. It’s kind of an accidental kiss, to be honest, and maybe it involves chocolate, and darn, I think I gave it away!

LM: Tell us what you enjoy doing when you aren't writing!

Lydia: Um. Eating? I love food. Seriously.

LM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Lydia: I’m fascinated by natural beauty. I can stare at a vista for hours. And yet I have very little patience for other natural things, like extremes of temperature, and biting insects. Heh.

LM: Thank you so much for answering my questions today! Is there anything you'd like to add; anything you'd like to say to your readers?

Lydia: I really hope you get to meet Anda and Hector! They were some of my favorite characters to write, ever. Really.
